Hi,
we have been travelling around China for a few weeks now and are currently in Chengdu. we want to check out Yunnan and need some advice on how to get there and what to do when there - we are keen to see Dali, Shangri-la, Kunming and the Tiger Leaping Gorge (these are the places we are aware of but also keen to hear of others less touristy).
We were wondering if you had any tips or advice (i.e. what else to see when there), in particular, we want to spend some time relaxing in a more countryside type setting as we have mainly visited busy cities in China so far.
We are travelling on a budget and have been getting hostels, guest houses of around 70 rmb- 140rmb for two people.
In particular would be greatful foradvice on the initial trip from Chengdu - yunnan (what town / city).
Regards
Roons
Any feedback would be great. Thanks very much.

Yunnan
Chengdu to Xichang.I think leave at 19:00 and arrived 05:30.
Then bus from tourist bus station to Lugu lake (take all day).
Stay in Lugu and relax. Then another bus to Lijiang, then TLG, then up to Shangri-la. If you have time also go up to Deqin and Felai-si.
The back down again to Dali and Kunming.
Lots of accommodation around that price in Yunnan.
Yunnan
I mean Chengdu to Xichang by overnight train.
You can also catch a train to Kunming from Chengdu - but that would take longer.

a not so touristy place and suit your budget
From Kunming take a 9 hours + express bus for around RMB 110.
Kunming to Yuanyuan
cheers
You can fly to Lijiang from Chengdu although it%26#39;s more expensive than bus / train it may save you a bit of time.
When you get to Lijiang it then gives you the option of day tours to TLG %26amp; Shangri-la. Although staying overnight would be best of course.
Just found a place called the Tea Galleria in Lijiang %26amp; will be staying there in April. I think some of their rooms are RMB160. They have 2 places, both in old town - one on the hill %26amp; the other by one of the streams. The owners have been great about getting back to me regarding my plans.

After Lijiang take a bus to Dali %26amp; see the places around there. there seems to be heaps of guesthouses %26amp; hostels in Yunnan so you shouldn%26#39;t have a problem.
thanks for the replies-think we will go to lake lugo and thenlook from there. any ideas where the tourist bus leaves from when we get to Xichang- can we book up first...
... any recomendations on where to stay----
thank you for your help everyone- having a great stay in china as yet and looking forward to the next leg.
Bus goes from the %26#39;tourist bus station%26#39;. Many options to stay in Lugu Lake - best head to Lige village 閲屾牸
