Hey Guys,
My girlfriend and I are off on a Round the World trip in September and first stop is Hong Kong!
We%26#39;ve been doing a bit of research and are still quite confused about not only where to stay but the best area? It seems to be that the north island has the best value beds for your HKD however the south island is where all the attractions seem to be?!
Any help would be great on some hostels / guesthouse / hotels that are fairly cheap - between 350-550 HKD - and people have been to recently with positive feedback! - One positive point would be to stay near some cool places to go out and eat!
Thanks in advance everyone!
Ben %26amp; Claire
Where to stay in Hong Kong on a budget?!
The south island? Do you mean Lamma island?
Maybe try JJ hotel in Wanchai. Has some cheap offers.
See http://www.jjhotel.com.hk/

Or there are cheaper hostels.
For example Cosmic Guesthouse www.cosmicguesthouse.com/

Ben and Claire --
I%26#39;ve had excellent luck so far with Cosmic Guest House. Excellent owners, great service, comfortable, simple and pleasant.
CGH is in Kowloon, which is very convenient to public transit which is fantastic in HK.
LOADS of good eats nearby as well. You%26#39;ll NEVER go hungry in Hong Kong!
Hey,
Thanks for all the prompt replies already!
To clarify I meant the North island as in Kowloon %26amp; South Island as in Hong Kong Island - sorry for not being clearer in my first post!
The reviews on Trip advisor for the Cosmic Guest House make it not sound very nice!? - Is this just people over reacting?!
Thanks in advance guys!
Cheers,
Ben
Hong Kong is an expensive place to stay. For your budget you are going to get a small room. Windows will be a bonus! Bathrooms will be very small.
Cosmic, and places like it, are generally fine as long as you don%26#39;t go expecting luxury. The building it is in, Mirador Mansions, has seen better days and the exterior is a little grotty. There are some dubious characters hanging around outside as well, but they are not a problem to anyone. Inside, the decoration is usually white tiles, which puts some people off, but is easy to keep clean.
Hi Ben,
As usual, drumbrake is spot on. If you are NOT expecting luxury, Cosmic is absolutely fine. Rooms are tiny, but clean. Great owners and staff -- they could not be nicer.
There are some characters outside Mirador where Cosmic is located, and Chungking Mansion next door , just breeze past them and you%26#39;ll be fine.
I%26#39;ll second drumbrake%26#39;s reco of the JJ Hotel. I was traveling solo and was looking for a place that was clean, in a good location, and relatively inexpensive. The JJ was good for me.
Can try HK Taisan Guest House: www.hktaisanguesthouse.com/eng/index.htm
I stayed there for my recent trip. Very convenient, right in the middle of TST, few minutes to the nearest MRT station, 10-15 minutes walk to Avenue Stars and TST Ferry Pier, lots of shopping mall and eating place around.
I am not sure whether Bishop Lei fits your budget but you might want to look at that.
you won%26#39;t regert JJ, the best!!!
