We are planning our trip to HK for 10 days in July. We have an active 16 year ols son, who is not keen on shopping. Can anybody suggest any outings that might impress him? His interests are sport, sport, sport and computer games. Thank you

Dunno about sport. He MIGHT like a trip to the Museum of Coastal Defence, combined with ice skating at Cityplaza Mall, a few stops down/up the track on the MTR.

Take him to Happy Valley Race Course on a Weds night - the atmosphere is great.
Also there are always games of football and basketball going on on various courts all over the place. i am sure that if he turned up looking for a game he will be accommodated.
If he likes to hike, there is quite a hike from the Big Buddah / Po Lin area down to Tung Chung. I did it in about three hours, and it was a blast. All downhill.
The next year, I did it in reverse. Start near Tung Chung, and it%26#39;s three hours -- ALL uphill. (It%26#39;s %26#39;do-able%26#39;, I just needed frequent rest stops.)
Relax at the Monastery a bit after your climb, have some lunch, then Bus back to the ferry pier in Mui Wo. ( I THINK it%26#39;s Mui Wo.) Then back to HK Island.
On another tack, I have seen numerous pick - up soccer / football games at all the rec areas around the city. And it seems like every night -- there%26#39;s soccer / football that takes place on a hard surfaced court about a 15 20 minute walk EAST of the Star Ferry area on Hong Kong Island.
I%26#39;m sure the HK folks will have plenty of ideas for sport.
Have fun!
Can I take him to the horse racing...I thought it was adults only.
Yes. 18 and obve only
Hi Sunsneeker. We are also trying to come up with some ideas for our 15 year old son to keep him occupied during our 7 day visit in July! Our son is also into the computer games and is keen on visiting the world trade centre in Causeway Bay where I believe they have a virtual game place with some new games called Gundam Pods. I don%26#39;t know much about them but I am told only Japan and Hong Kong have them as they are very new. I also looked at the Victoria Peak site and noticed they have an EA shop...I%26#39;m not sure if they might have something of interest. My 12 year old daughter is interested in Ocean Park and we thought a day trip to Aberdeen might be worthwhile. I am also wondering abut the Wetland Park. If you have any other ideas that you have come up with I would love to hear!
Thankyou Jorlaur, that sounds a good idea, especialy as there seams to be a shopping mall in the same building (19 year old daughter to accomodate too!) and it is indoors...everything else on my list seems to be outdoors,(no-one seems overkeen on museums) and due to the season I fear we could have some rainy days. I think we will have a trip to Cheung Chau Island, where you can hire bikes to explore. Ocean Park is also on the list. Shame we can%26#39;t do the horse racing, I know we would all enjoy that. The light show is also a must, both from Kowloon side and from a boat.
