Currency

I have read the various information regarding the changing of currency at the airport, banks and hotels. I noticed in one reply they stated that at the airport they charge 40RMB per transaction. Also that there is no point in searching for lower rates, etc., because the rate is fixed. Do the banks charge to convert currency? Or is it just at the airport and at hotels?

Many thanks for your assistance.

Currency

I%26#39;ve not experienced this fixed charge to convert money but I suggest you use your NZ ATM card for the best rates. Ask your bank about the cost of using your own money on your credit card. I did that one year free of charge but then my bank (ASB) changed the rules. (I mean where you load say $NZ1000 onto your credit card %26amp; then withdraw it overseas)

Currency

I changed the USD %26amp; Janpanese Yan in the banks before. Just give them the notes and you could get your money, no charge for converting currency.

true,

the rate is fixed and varies daily as it is set by govt to USD.

Use your credit card to withdraw,

CMM i thought you needed a non standard account in china to handle forex deposits:-)

BTW don%26#39;t call me CMM...sounds like CNN the one I don%26#39;t like, because of its most untrue reports about China.

Skeggles - CuteMinMin is talking about exchanging currency not a deposit. In any case it is easy to hold foreign currency deposits in China. when I opened my account in Beijing a few weeks ago they opened a RMB account and one in US$ and one in Can$ without me even asking it. Makes it easy for me to send money from Canada then covert it and have it transferred to my RMB account.

Thank you for all your replies, but I am still a little confused. We will not be using our ATM card, but will be bringing in USD to use. So do I exchange it at the foreign exchange at the airport, or at a bank, or at the hotel. Does any one of those options cost more to use, in regards to transaction fees, etc.? I appreciate all your advice, and I value having the ability to ask questions like this and receive replies instant replies.

No extra charges if u excahnge the foreign surrency whether in the hotels or banks.U could change it easily. But im note sure whether th e rate is the same in hotels to the banks.Probably not much of differences.

Thank you for your reply. We leave tomorrow, so I appreciate your prompt reply. Maybe I%26#39;ll try all three just as a test...cheers
