Dim Sum Lovers

I will be in HK for 2 days, i have found some dim sum places to eat at but not sure which is a Must-Try. I would prefer somewhere with nice but affordable (HK$ 100-130) dim sum. preferably not a fanciful or touristy restaurant.

here are a few i have found so far:

Central

1) Luk Yu Tea House

2) Maxim%26#39;s Palace

3) The Square

Kowloon

1) Serenade Chinese Restaurant

2) T%26#39;ang Courturant

3) City Chiuchow Restaurant

4) Jade Garden Chinese Restaurant

5) Super Star Seafood Restaurant

6) Tsui Hang Village Restaurant

You missed Lin Heung Teahouse in Central/Sheung Wan. Amazing and very authentic dimsum experience, affordable too.

I highly recommend you read through the sticky dining thread started by Katetam. See the forum%26#39;s first page.

Regarding the places you posted:

Central

1) Luk Yu Tea House--you go for the tea experience, but the dim sum there is downright horrible.

2) Maxim%26#39;s Palace--Cityhall location? Ok but not great. It has a harbour view.

3) The Square--the very high end of Maxim%26#39;s so it%26#39;s expensive and should be decent.

Kowloon

1) Serenade Chinese Restaurant--never gone myself but gets decent reviews overall

2) T%26#39;ang Courturant--never gone so can%26#39;t comment

3) City Chiuchow Restaurant--very average, I would skip it

4) Jade Garden Chinese Restaurant--higher-end Maxim%26#39;s, ok but not great.

5) Super Star Seafood Restaurant--ok although the dim sum choices are unusual and not traditional. Expensive.

6) Tsui Hang Village Restaurant--dim sum is below average. This is actually a good place for dinner.

Go for dim sum at around 2pm, ie afternoon tea time. Most restaurants have their dim sum at one flat rate. In the morning, dim sum prices are cheaper before 9am.

I recommend Ho Choy Restaurant and this one

:) Try to go there after lunch time. It%26#39;s much cheaper and less busy.

So where would you go for good Dim Sum. I have only heard average reviews.

I will probably try the Dim Sum at Lin Heung Teahouse in Central/Sheung Wan as recommended by greenarcher04.

the reviews found at openrice.com for this dim sum place seemed not bad, although it is mostly in chinese

:)

Did you read the Sticky Dining thread? Also do a search in the forum for dim sum and see what pops up.

Ho Choi (many locations) is generally above average and reliable. Lin Heung is old style and gets good reviews overall.
