3.5 days in shanghai and????

Hi gurus,

Have 3.5 days in Shanghai. Will cover The Bund, Yu Yuan Garden, Xin tian di and Super brand malls based on the recommendations on tripadvisor!

However, am thinking of taking a day trip out to other cities nearby any suggestions and any idea how long and how to get there?

Saw hangzhou and suzhou - but not sure if it%26#39;s worth and if it can be covered within a day - and how long does it take to get there? or should i go somewhere else?

Also, does anyone know how much it cost by taxi to get from Pudong airport to Yan An West Road [in Puxi i understand]???

Thanks a lot!

3.5 days in shanghai and????

Hi,

sorry another thing - does anyone know if it%26#39;s easy to change USD in shanghai? how are the rates like? Thanks!

3.5 days in shanghai and????

We did 2 days in Shanghai by cruise ship last year and had a lovely stay. Here%26#39;s a link to my travel blog with our photos of Suzhou and Shanghai:

…blogspot.com/2009/03/shanghai-china-funding…

Regarding Suzhou, it is almost essential. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ve heard that it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Oddly, it%26#39;s only because of the gardens. I found the canals to be at least as interesting.

We used Beijing Services to book a private car, driver and guide for the day. It was all top notch.

Have a great time. It%26#39;s good you have 3.5 days!

Just got back gtom Shanghai 2 days ago . BTW Do check out Shanghai Outlet Shopping for your shopping desires. .. about Y100 taxi ride from the city center. Superbrand mall is good but pricey .. with shops like H%26amp;M , Muji.. etc..

Would be advice to take day trips using the local tour agents.. pretty reasonable priced. if u go for the local ones ( chinese speaking guides) and not those catering to the English speaking. budget Y200 compared to Y500 .. did a 3D2N your myself to Hangzhou - Suzhou - Wuxi .. with a local tour group with transport, guide and accomadation and cost me abt Y700.. heard the locals pay less thou. would advice you to go for the goverment run tour agency CttS if i not recall correctly .. many say they have better service ..

Taxi should cost u abt Y130-150 from PVG to town .. or take the Maglev and than a cab to town .. cost roughly same unless u have a party of 4. good experience .. put our MRt to shame anytime ...

Hi veraclari,

very easy to get currency exchange in Shanghai, banks and your hotel... now 1 usd = 6.8 RMB/ CNY.

day trip out of shanghai you could choose ancient water town / Suzhou / Hangzhou ( might be rush, coz it%26#39;s quite big)

for water town, the easiest way but the time will be tied is take sightseeing shuttle bus, leave shanghai at 9am - 9:15am, and get back from ancient water town at 4pm -4:30pm)

Suzhou, take express train, around 38min, but better to get the train tickets in advance, esp if you travel there at the weekends.BTW it%26#39;s also quite hard to get the ticket back from Suzhou at Friday night.

Hangzhou, take express train, around 1hours %26amp; 10 min, just like Suzhou, better to get tickets in advance.

Between Suzhou %26amp; Hangzhou, I prefer Hangzhou, I love the west lake whatever you choose to walk around or rent a bike, take a boat, it%26#39;s so relaxing and beautiful with the lake and mountains around.

West Yan%26#39;an Road is located in Puxi and very long road, around 160RMB depending on which part of West Yan%26#39;an road, it might cost you more if you travel there in the rush hour.

Have a nice day %26amp; Take care

Thanks all for your advices! ;)

Cuteminmin - i%26#39;m interested in the ancient water town - what is it called in Chinese??? There%26#39;s only 1 in Shanghai? Also, any idea how i can get to Pu Tuo Shan? Is it convenient to make a day trip there???

There are lots of water towns in and out of Shanghai.

the closest one is called Zhujiajiao (朱家角)in the outskirts of Shanghai, but very small %26amp; more and more commercialized these days.

then Zhouzhuang(周庄), Xitang(西塘), Tongli(同里), Wuzhen(乌镇), Nanxun(南浔)....

If you don%26#39;t want to go to too tourist ancient water town, forget about Zhouzhuang.

Xitang is quite good, and it%26#39;s also in Mission Impossible 3.Very nice place for taking good photos.

Tongli is also good very take more time to arrive there than Xitang

Wuzhen is OK

Nanxun is a place without lots of tourists, very local, you could see the street market, local people%26#39;s residential area.

Thanks Cuteminmin. Would love to check out ZhuJia Jiao since u said it%26#39;s within Shanghai.

Thanks for ur advice!

You are welcome:)

Pu Tao Shan is quite a long way from Shanghai although the new long bridge has opened (33.6kms)it would be shorter but I would think you would need more than a day trip. It is off the coast near Ningbo, need to go to the island Zhoushan Dao and then across to Putaoshan.

Enjoy your trip. Have a nice day!
