Is there any private transport on the roads of Shanxi? Is hitchhiking possible? Do people stop?

I am particularly interested in the road Wutai Shan-Dongye and Datong-Fengzhen.

I have never seen anybody hitchhike in China.

many people are walking along roads but def no hitchhiking.

I was sort of forced to hitchhike in China some twenty years ago after the PSB kicked us out of the closed town we were planning to spend the night in. It wasn%26#39;t easy, but we did get some trucks to pick us up. But foreigners were a real novelty back in those days, and we spoke passable Chinese.

The way to get around is to take a bus--they are cheap. If you are in a place without a bus station, you go out to the main road and flag down the buses.
