We are about to book a 9-day tour (Shanghai, Xian, Beijing) through chinatouronline.com.

Has anybody been on a tour with this company, and would they recommend them?

Just ask a Chinese friend to book flights and hotels for you if you have one. There are always discount and it will save you a fortune.

Of course, I should not say this because don%26#39;t know about chinaonlinetour. Maybe they are inexpensive. But from my best understanding, it always costs a lot more than needed booking a package. If you could book flights and hotels with great discount on that site, I guess it%26#39;s also doable.
