From Mongkok to Hung Hom Station

Hi, my name is Nana. I am from Brunei and plan to go to HK this coming May. We are planning to stay at Stanford Hotel in Soy Street Mongkok. After that, we would like to go to Guangzhou via MTR.

How long would it take to travel from our hotel to Hung Hom Station?

I have plan early and arrive at the station an hour before the train depart.

Thanks.

From Mongkok to Hung Hom Station

You can go to Mongkok East Station and take the MTR one stop to Hung Hom, only a couple of minutes ride. From your hotel, the closest entrance to Mongkok East is on Argyle Street and Yim Po Fong Street. Should be about a 10 minute walk to the station.

Note that Mongkok East Station (on the East Rail Line) is different from Mongkok Station (Tsuen Wan Line), which is on Nathan Road.

thanx for your help.i really appreciated it.

Nana-

As stated, the MTR ride to Hung Hom from your hotel location is only a few minutes long. The MTR railway system operates just in the Hong Kong area.

Then you%26#39;ll need to purchase tickets for the KCR Rail line -- which is different from the MTR -- at Hung Hom station for your trip to Guangzhou.

The trip up to Guangzhou is 1.5 - 2 hours or so. You%26#39;ll need a visa to enter mainland China, and you%26#39;ll need to get that arranged before arriving in Hong Kong. I believe visas are also readily available from tourist agencies in HK.

Good luck, and have fun!

I mentioned the KCR Line. This might be the KCRC Corporation -- I%26#39;m sure the HK experts will know.

KCR and MTR have merged, so the KCR is no more. What used to be the KCR line to Lo Wu is now known as the MTR East Rail.

Actually, there are two kinds of train service you can take from Kowloon to Guangzhou.

The first is the Intercity Through Trains, which operate nonstop from Hung Hom to Guangzhou. So follow the way we have discussed before.

The second is to take the local train (East Rail line) from Mongkok East to Lo Wu. Then cross the border to Shenzhen, and take the express train to Guangzhou. This method is cheaper (about HK$120 total), versus about $190 for the Through Train. But it has the added hassle of having to go through immigration control at the border, which can be busy at times.

One more way, there are direct coach services to Guangzhou that depart near your hotel. On Sai Yee Street near the McPherson Playground, you can find China Travel Service (CTS) and other agents (small shop windows next to the money exchangers) that sell coach tickets. The coach boards in front of the Playground, and will drop you off at major locations in Guangzhou (China Hotel, Garden Hotel, etc). Costs $100 or under depending on which coach company. It takes about 3 hours for the trip, but can be prone to traffic when approaching Guangzhou.
