Hi,
Could any one help with out itiniary? Suggest alterations or give us any tips.
We arrive 9pm Guilin on a Wednesday evening (April) and have a flight to Shanghai on Monday morning 11am.
We are thinking of staying two nights in Guilin - the first night because it is quite late, then on the our first day in Guilin - do the Reed Flute Cave, the Seven Star Park and the Elephant Trunk Hill. Q: do you think our hotel coudl arrange this or shoudl we contact a local guide directly? Does anyone know any?
Th next day get the Li river cruise down to Yangshou - stay in the moon resort if possible for a couple of nights, taking in the scenery perhaps with a local guide, and maybe a cooking class (2 night stay Fri/Sat). Then go to Longsheng on sunday for one night so we can trek about the dragons backbone. Then on monday need to get back to Guilin airport for 11.30am flight.
Would we be better trying to find some way of incorporating Longsheng into a day trip from Yangshuo? Or are there just as nice rice paddies in Yangshou, maybe we could miss Longsheng altogther.
Or would you skip out the stuff in Guilin to have more time elsewhere? From what I have read Guilin is the least attrative of the three places, should we just do a bamboo raft trip from Yangshou and get taxi down to Yangshou from Guilin?
Thank you for your help.
Guilin - Yangshou - Longsheng - 5 days
I guess you could just spend the one night in Guilin and then do the Reed Flute cave etc in the morning %26amp; then go onto Yangshuo. You could ask Lilly Lu who is a guide for Yangshuo but lives in Guilin. Her email is lulilly12@hotmail.com. Or you could ask Jade Leo on this forum as I believe he can arrange tours of Guilin.
If you decide to take a taxi to Yangshuo then get your hotel in Yangshuo to arrange it. They all have this option %26amp; it%26#39;s much cheaper than a taxi in Guilin will charge.
When in Yangshuo you can then either arrange a boat ride on the Li River at Xingping or take a raft ride on the Yulong River.
There is so much to see %26amp; do in Yangshuo itself I think the consensus is to spend as much time there as possible.
We will be in that area soon too but undecided about Longsheng as the rice crop is not at it%26#39;s best in April.
Good luck with everything,
Annie
Guilin - Yangshou - Longsheng - 5 days
The website for the cooking school in Yangshuo is www.yangshuocookingshool.com
You can book direct via email or get your hotel to book for you.
You mention the rice crop is not at its best in April...
Can I ask, what it is like in early to mid July?
I was told March %26amp; April is the start of the growing season and it is better to see it between May %26amp; August. They harvest in Autumn so it would be bare.
I have based it on that but then some people say it is also okay to see when there is no rice growing. It comes down to personal preference I think:)
You could google the question %26amp; see what you come up with.
Hi, I realize it is not considered the best time to go to Longsheng, but I just left from there 2 weeks ago. It was B E A U T FF U L and I am glad I did not miss it. I will have to tell you, it was cold, though, so be prepared. We had a local Guilin/Yangshou guide, often mentioned in Trip Advisor, meet us in Guilin. We stayed there 1 day overnight then went to the rice fields. Even the drive was gorgeous. Do not miss it, and use the guide we used. He was SOOOO good, as was his driver, too. His name is Jade Leo and his Email: jadeleo66@hotmail.com

He was so good that I used him for 9 days. He will promptly answer your email and questions. We then went to old beautiful villages and saw REAL, rural China. Bamboo rafted down the Li and Yulong rivers, saw Dragon Bridge, Sanjiang, Wind %26amp; Rain bridge Xingping %26amp; Fuli town and bridge, and the beautiful, charming village of Huangyao, where the movie ';Painted Veil'; was filmed. You can do a lot in 5 days, and Jade Leo will maximize your time there. If you have any questions about Jade or anything, do not hesitate to ask me. To summarize, don%26#39;t miss the Longsheng Rice Terraces and Yangshou. You are in for a treat!

I just finished a trip travelling throughout China and I mostly used local guides. In Guilin and Yangshuo, I was lucky enough to meet a local guide named Mulan.
She is a licenced tour guide and speaks good English. The time that she showed me around was really the highlight of my trip.
I found her through this website:

Seems the info on the site would be useful for your trip too.
Enjoy.

1 March, 2009 Sunday
(Private Car)Best - handy to have another luxurious ride for our stay in Guilin. (English Tour Guide)best - Emily was like a ray of sunshine and so pleased to meet us and full of energy. (sightseeing)Bad - unfortunately the clouds rolled in so we saw little and was very touristy compared to a place like Sapa in Vietnam. None of this was the fault of the organization or guide though.
2 March, 2009 Monday
(sightseeing)good - still impressive but rained the whole way.
3 March, 2009 Tuesday
(sightseeing)Good - got a cheap, basic mountain bike from the hostel. Had a fantastic day touring but would recommend going out on own and not following locals to the ever hassling bamboo raft wharfs uncles you want to go rafting. Epic countryside and views.
4 March, 2009 Wednesday
(Private Car)Best - car was handy again.
(By public bus to Flute Caves)Better - cheap and easy to find the caves.
(sightseeing)Best - amazing and defo worth the money. would go back there and got some amazing pics.
5 March, 2009 Thursday
Better - all smooth and easy and well organized at the best price.
