I%26#39;m visiting Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong from 5/16-5/31 and looking for a tour group departing from Shanghai that is geared towards 20-somethings, if this is possible, visiting Suzhou or Hangzhou. I may be traveling alone for a couple days and I%26#39;m not sure if it%26#39;s the best idea to go venture off by myself. My Mandarin is mediocre but not quite as good as my Cantonese, which is probably useless in those regions. I%26#39;m also trying to decide the split between Shanghai and Hong Kong. I%26#39;ve been to all of the locations before but quite a while ago as a kid and with my family, so I assume it%26#39;ll be quite a different experience this time around.
Thanks!
Tour to Suzhou and Hangzhou
You definitely could try by yourself! You speak Mandarin.
In Shanghai metro system, road all have English subtitle, most buses even have english announcement:) Just buy a guidebook (with the Chinese name of the place will be better, since you could show to local people)
Take D train from Shanghai to Suzhou %26amp; Hangzhou, fast and comfortable. You will find the English title on the train which make everything very clear. Showing paper with the sites name in Chinese to driver will make your trip easier. BTW don%26#39;t follow the people who ask you join their tour group when you go out of the station in Suzhou. They just want to take you to some non-famous gardens / so-called water town and silk factory.
