Hi all,
I will be going to stay in Guangzhou for a couple of months and would like to know what are some really scenic places that I can take short weekend trips to.
Does anyone know whether there is any place where I can take short painting or drawing courses in Guangzhou?
Any advice is GREATLY appreciated! thanks
Anything interesting scenic places near Guangzhou?

Ideally, get there from GZ by the overnight inland ferry, if available.

You have piqued my interest too but I can%26#39;t get most of this website to open - specifically the ';traffic'; section and the map. Where is it in relation to Foshan city or is it easy to get to from Gunagzhou?
LOL I think the website is just half-finished, that%26#39;s all. Are you able to read Chinese, perhaps?
Yangshuo (http://www.yangers.com) is probably the most popular choice in this region for scenery.
the rock/stream formation was exactly like what you%26#39;d see on ancient landscape ink paintings. Before I visited xiqianshan, I thought those paintings were just based on people%26#39;s imagination.
apparently many buses leave from GZ, every 20 minutes, from multiple bus stations within GZ. ~15RMB
They probably don%26#39;t have ferry service anymore.
There%26#39;s a high-speed train service from Guangzhou to Shenzhen, getting you there in less than an hour. From there you have easy access to Hong Kong and Macau. (Not sure that they are what you consider scenic, but you did say ANY advice...)
Thanks Everyone this is very helpful. I went to Lian Hua Shan (Lotus Mountain). I thought is was not too bad too. Touristy, with flowers, temple, pagoda and rock formation.
The only bad thing is the taxi. I took a Taxi and it cost me a bomb. I felt like I have been extorted money of.... anyone knows how much it will cost from Sa mien to Lian Hua shan?
I was alone and the driver was fierce and very insistent. grrr....
Anyone going GZ take my advise don%26#39;t take the Green cab which is very common on the streets. Advise from the local, take blue, red and bright yellow... safer. Especially at night!
Some good weekend trips:
1) Yangshuo one of the finest places in the world. Bit of a trek for a weekend, and you will not want to leave to quickly!
2) Shang Chuan Dao for the beach (coach to ZhongShan, change to another bus to the ferry pier, then ferry to the island.) When we last went there the food was overpriced so take your own snacks.
3) Panyu zoo / waterpark. 30min on the metro.
4) white water rafting. we went with a travel agency (west holiday) as the transport was easier that way
5) Foshan for the sandstone rock formations. Day trip really.
6) White Cloud Mountain - to people-watch / bungee jump / grass ski / enjoy food and tea in a scenic location (day trip)
For your painting, I would suggest asking / looking at posters advertsing courses at either the book center next to Tian He Sports Centre (subway stop tiyuxilu) or in the art studios upstairs at the junction of dong chuan lu and zhong shan lu (subway stop lieshelingyuan) I am sure that one of the artists whose work you like would be able to arrange lessons. There are sure to be other options.
Have a great trip!
